Home

The subway entrance in the neighborhood where I live is often frequented by real estate agents distributing flyers. I usually take them, not knowing what use they might have. Later, as I browsed through these flyers, I noticed that they always portrayed their projects in an exceptionally beautiful light. Moreover, on them, you could see people's most idealistic imaginations of home. The houses on the flyers were exquisite and luxurious, filled with warmth everywhere. I suppose this is probably the best image people have of home.
However, when I open Weibo, news websites, YouTube, or delve into my own memories, I occasionally come across the worst records about homes. The images and accounts of domestic violence are terrifying and chilling, brimming with violence and fear. Unless endured to a certain stage, these things seem to remain hidden behind the camera.
So, what exactly is a home? I later thought that perhaps these two aspects could complement each other in defining a home. Therefore, I integrated the collected flyers and the violent images seen online. In the reflections of these exquisite home images, one can see their other side.
We live in between these two extremes, perhaps not entirely beautiful nor so painful, both natural and inescapable. Hayek said that the road to hell is often paved with good intentions, and we all walk into barriers with fantasies. This is the concept of "home" that we have carried on for thousands of years.
